FOX News figures that Canadians are worth mocking! Including the ones who've died in combat!

Watching this 4+ minute segment will make your soul ache.

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] serrico for giving the heads-up. Spread this one around, folks, it's something that's worth getting angry about.

ETA: The asshat host responsible has offered an apology, but I can't help thinking that that's not exactly adequate. It's supposedly a satire, and some of the people in the clip are comedians by trade, but there's not much there that seems exactly funny.

I read about that in the Star today. Honestly. I hope he loses his job over that - people have been fired for less.

If there is one thing you don't do, it is mock the soldiers who have died in combat. You would that that a man from a country that has lost over 4,260 men and women in Afghanistan since that mission began would realize that.

I don't think they researched past the press release. Especially coming off a week (a month) of heavy losses for Canadians. Knowing that an apology (http://www.thestar.com/news/canada/article/606908) has been offered almost makes it worse, because an apology means the asshat is going to keep his job.

The apology should only be considered if all involved parties come up to Canada and hold vigil along the Highway of Heroes.

There is satire and then there is complete douchebaggery. You know which one you fall under, Fox News. *glares*

It's like they read a transcript of a Stephen Colbert segment and figured they could do the same thing but completely and entirely missed the point.

It'll be interesting to see if Jon Stewart mentioned it on tonight's show.

Did they get mentioned on Jon Stewart's show?

Not that I've seen, no. They seem to be covering real news, or something like that.

I'm currently checking to see if the Billy Bob BS is mentioned. Go Canuck-checking! ^_^

The CBC news anchor who introduced me to this whole thing had one very brief yet eloquent thing to say after playing the (truncated) clip: "And that is not funny humour."

Agreed, CBC anchor guy. AGREED.

Yeah, agreed. Not to be pedantic, but:

sat·ire, n.
1. a. A literary work in which human vice or folly is attacked through irony, derision, or wit.
b. The branch of literature constituting such works.

2. Irony, sarcasm, or caustic wit used to attack or expose folly, vice, or stupidity.

...I'd really hate to see any more of that show because I'm afraid to see what else they think is human vice or folly.

I'd always had the "wow they're batshit insane" opinion, but now I think I'm more directly pissed off.

Good gods, that was painful to watch. Fox News is like the embarrassing, senile, racist, batshit crazy relative that no one wants to mention at family gatherings. Just...wow.

I apologize on behalf of all sane Americans. This shit pisses us off, too. I agree with jennybenz up there. Haaaaaaaate. So much hate.

Heh. Apology most enthusiastically accepted.

I think that show was supposed to be the right-wing answer to The Daily Show, except... except you have to take a different tack when mocking liberals because people on the left aren't into hurting people.

Oh. My. God.

I don't think I've ever actually had my jaw physically drop like that at a "news" clip before, but there you have it. I can't believe this bullshit actually makes it on the air. I think what astonished me the most is when he calls the other guy racist for saying Mexicans take siestas O_o

On an intellectual level, I get that they're trying to be satirists. But satire isn't laughing at a guy for having the surname "Leslie".

But, you know, Mexicans are another race. Canadians are just the soft and girly versions of themselves who live near the arctic. That's not racist. There is no facepalm great enough.

God, what an assHOLE.

Fox "news" has never spoken for me. And this supposedly funny guy has never heard of LESLEY Nielsen?

I know I shouldn't put too much stock in a crazy person who's talking on a crazy network, but it just seems to be below the belt.

I honestly don't know what to say to that. The potshots at the guy's name starting things off poorly, but whole "only country in the world without a standing army" bit? Not exactly (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_without_armed_forces). And that took roughly 11 seconds of googling to discover. Or the "only getting away with it because they share a border with the US" bit? ROCKS FOR BRAINS.

Right. Preaching to the choir here. Deep breath.

To the choir indeed. I'm certainly less angry now that I can dismiss the guy as a comedian who's failed at being funny, and instead roll my eyes at the Typical Republican Asshattery.

That said, it's still not on as it were.

I doubt the studio can withstand a Bison APC plowing through their stage set, even with half of their drive wheels blown out.

p.s. some Canadian APCs were purchased by the Americans for their war on drugs.

I would say something intelligent, but honestly I couldn't make it through the whole clip.

I blame Fox news for the rest of the world thinking I'm an ignorant, inbreed hick. I'm trading in my citizenship.

It's pretty unbelievable, isn't it?

I'm appalled that they went on for four and a half minutes. You'd hope (you'd hope) that common decency would kick in and they'd realize that they're being horrible human beings. You'd hope.

There are many things to blame FOX for, but if we get you out of the deal, we'll take you! I think hating FOX is worth at least 5 points on the application.
