Sky High is the best superhero movie ever, bar none. Plus, the DVD is worth picking up for the blooper reel, because Kurt Russell *giggles*. I kid you not. Honest-to-Pete giggles.

I finally (finally!) got around to watching this year's finale of CSI after [livejournal.com profile] aoshi said it was good. And it was good. So very, very good. I haven't seen the show since the beginning of the fourth season, since they sunk the Grissom/Sara ship. That was the pairing sucked me back into fandom at large (two years of no fic after the death of XF!), and kept me watching CSI. That ship sucked me in to such a degree that I kept reading the fic for a good 18 months after I stopped watching new episodes.

So as I'm watching this latest ep, I'm thinking, "This show really isn't anything more than pretty people quipping and doing science to fun dance music. I've kind of missed this!" And there was a solid A-plot, a cute scene with Grissom and Sara and a camera duel, and the show's usual judgement of anyone vaguely mockable (ie "what kind of sane adults want to wear period clothing?" *grumbles*). Good old shallow dumb fun! Visually, the show's art direction *has* really evolved from the first season... but that's not what made me squee so very, very much. The tag, after the satisfying resolution of the A-, B- and C-plots, was the best way to lure a wandering fan into the next season (if there is a next season).

What better way to start a morning, than watching the cute, geeky, awkward-but-adorable pairing (het pairing, at that), the Mulder and Scully replacement double-nerd/scientist/cop pairing that walked a line between fluff and angst become unquestionably *canon*. More canon than that bit with Lady Heather, anyway.

It's almost enough to make me want to watch this last season, to see if there's any build-up to this beyond the near-death of a close friend. It does make me want to go back and read [livejournal.com profile] in_wintertime's old stories, like "How to Have a Social Life Without Really Trying. Which includes the following passage: A never-fail rule for dealing with CSI personnel - - if you send a plant to a young woman and tell her that she makes you notice beauty, then be prepared to deal with everyone thinking that you harbor a deep-seated romantic love for her. Also, be prepared to be annoyed when you realize that they’re right, and you’re an idiot. and the oft-quoted (at least, around Chapters Oshawa) Jenga is not a euphamism for sex! (Speaking of sex, there's also some really hot smut in the series that starts with this story...)

Grissom and Sara were my Moose and Squirrel 2.0, and if you understand what *that* means, you understand how much I squeed at the tag on that latest ep. :D SO MUCH LOVE.

I found out that the MK Ultra (Vanderslice's early-90s power-pop band) website is still live, and they have all three albums available to download. I'm listening to him sing about something being machine washable. On some planet that might make sense, too! Hee! There's one called "Goodbye, Max!", too.

AAAAaaaaand, I might go to Japan later this month. For reals. :D
