The con happened, and we survived. It was bloody cold because the a/c thought that we needed frostbite and cold noses INDOORS and in SEPTMEBER in TORONTO.

Luckily, Mal lent his albatross a coat and River didn't freeze too bad.

Um. [livejournal.com profile] _shewalks and I declared our get-a-table-at-the-con experiment a success, further proclaimed ourselves MADE OF AWESOME and have a stack of things to knit and mail to people because they paid for hats and scarves that don't yet exist.

I managed to leave my camera at home all three days, but there were others with cameras who took pictures of the [livejournal.com profile] aoshi/Kaylee-[livejournal.com profile] _shewalks/Zoe-me/River cosplay awesome. There weren't many Firefly cosplayers, so when we found the Mal, [livejournal.com profile] _shewalks chased him down and dragged him back for pictures. He was cool. There were a few Jaynes, and a handful of Kaylees, but we didn't see any other Zoes or Rivers. At the end of Saturday I was so twitchy from sitting and knitting all day that I played Axe-Swingy in one of the convention centre lobbies. No one was hurt. It's damn satisfying to swing a nice, heavy axe around get in character.

No SPN cosplayers, but I expected that.

Thursday: met up with [livejournal.com profile] aoshi, [livejournal.com profile] _shewalks and [livejournal.com profile] psychomax for con preparations. Some knitting, some sewing, some watching Firefly some wontons, some Howl's Moving Castle and some hanging-with[livejournal.com profile] meigahime ensued.

Friday: To the con, via the Hobbit Hole, via Markham. We set up the table by noon, and started knitting to finish up the little projects. [livejournal.com profile] _shewalks's Jayne hats all flew wings and turned into funny green pieces of paper, so I learned how to make Jayne hats too. The usual suspects showed up, and fun was had. Paul McGillion was wearing sunglasses indoors, Alice Cooper is a normal-sized dude with a police escort, Morena Baccarin and Christina Hendricks are awesome and sweet, and the rest of that story is here, because it's not my story to tell but is SO DAMN COOL. I also ran into [livejournal.com profile] deleriumd, and I think it's been almost a year since I saw her last.

Saturday: A very long day. There were thousands and thousands of people, several cartoon characters, immortals and jedi, and a few dozen kind souls who bought our humble hats and scarves. After dinner (at which I actually forgot to think about knitting because I was blabbing about movies... for which I am SO SORRY, GUYS because even though I know I'm doing it, I just can't shut up when prompted about films but I should learn to not answer honestly when asked about my favourite film, and just give a single concise answer)-- um. Start again. After dinner, [livejournal.com profile] _shewalks and I finished our last knitting of the day while watching SPN - and she agrees that Dean is awesome. WIN!

Sunday: Also very long day. We were almost late because The Breakfast Club was on tv. I'd never seen it, now I've seen most of it! During the con, I was complemented on my River costume, but I remain unsure whether or not that was the costume, or the burned-out no-brain too-much-excitement look in my eyes. Effective cosplay for cheap! We were both knitted out and yet managed to make four more hats. Next year we'll make a pile of hats and spend the con enjoying ourselves a bit more... interacting with the attendees, shopping, relaxing and not spending the day bent over our needles. Further reason my partner-in-crime is awesome: she found this shirt for me, and I was a happy, happy girl.

All in all fun was had, knowledge was gained, rampant fangirling was enacted and I got to wear combat boots and a blue dress, let my hair down and swing an axe around in public. Cons are also the only place my beat-up vintage leather jacket is cool. That's because it's of the brownish colour, y'see.

As soon as I get pictures from those with cameras, I'll post them or the links.

The hat I'm working on won't finish itself, but it's time for this little River to sleeeeeep.
