tigerdirect.ca = bad news
Sep. 14th, 2008 05:03 pmIf you're ever tempted to order something from tigerdirect.ca, don't.
It's worth the minor inconvenience of driving up to one of their stores and getting what you want off the shelf rather than being tempted by the seeming-convenience of buying something online.
I bought a monitor from them back in August, and it arrived within a few days. Great, I thought. It was a good price, it arrived sooner than I expected, and everything was roses.
Except it didn't work. Well, it worked fine, except for the unfortunate green line bisecting the screen. Other than that, worked like a beaut. Thus began the long painful process of returning the monitor and getting a replacement.
See, if you buy something from their store, you can return it to their store and get a new one right away. If you buy something from their website, prepare to spend hours upon hours navigating their customer service nightmare. True, it could be worse: I could have made the mistake of buying from Creative again.
The latest part of the saga is that their computer says the replacement was shipped two weeks ago, it hasn't arrived yet, and neither my records nor the records accessible through the call centre I just spent 15 minutes on the phone with have the tracking number of this monitor. Just like the online store and the physical store are two different operations and have to pretend the other doesn't exist, the only customer support line listed is for an American call centre... which can't look up any records for stuff shipped to Canada. Despite the fact that this things was supposedly getting couriered via the American arm of UPS, of course.
The outcome of the call was 14 minutes left on hold, and about a minute of them telling me they'll email me when they figure out what's going on.
Will I ever see that monitor? Will it be a repeat of the Creative Zen:V disaster? Only time will tell. Until then, I'd suggest staying far away from tigerdirect.ca's website, and stick to their brick-and-mortar stores.
