That is EXACTLY what the deal was in Socio. It was painfully obvious that I was pretty much the only one who did the reading from week to week, and knowing what the hell was going on in lectures was generally contingent upon having some working knowledge of the assigned material.
There were also plenty of instances when people just didn't use their brains, though, or didn't care enough to. You could have participated in that tutorial just by having attended the lecture and exercising some minimal logic--and tutorial wasn't as bad as lecture for that reason, but there was still a fair amount of those excruciating silences that I found myself filling. Like, excuse me for actually being interested in the class.
