Feb. 1st, 2006 12:16 amThe best thing about taking a class in experimental film is that I'll always come home traumatized from what I've seen. We screen around seven films each week: one will take my breath away in its beauty, one will scar me for life, and the other five will be okay.
This week's awesome film was Transitions (Barbara Sternberg, Canada, 1982).
This week's scary film was Fireworks (Kenneth Anger, USA, 1947).
When she introduced the second film, she told us it was directed by a 17-year-old when his parents were out of town for the weekend. What she *didn't* tell us was that the film was an S&M-tinged homoerotic trance film (similar to a psychodrama) featuring the rape/physical assault of a young man by a bunch of buff sailor boys. A couple words of preparation would have been a nice buffer between that and the more lyrical and whimsical stuff we screened. I'm okay with the content, it just came a bit of a shock considering the intro she gave.
So as salve I'm listening to NIN songs that start with "The". ("The Fragile", "The Perfect Drug", "The Great Below", etc.)

Very possible. She seems like a sweet thing, but she *is* doing her PhD on wacky experimental films, and that's got to *do* something to you.

Also, no worries about icons... whenever is cool or it's all right if you can't do them anymore. :)
