Things to do by Friday:
- a draft of the [expletive deleted] English paper. The essay outline I wrote up actually says "I hate you, Wizard of Oz".
- do all the readings for this week. I don't have that many, but I still have to do them.
- hang out with [livejournal.com profile] aoshi
- have dinner with my sister
- bother my brother
- get, like, actual research for the Technological Failure paper instead of just guessing...
- start reading Gentlemen Prefer Blondes
- outline/start writing the Canadian Cinema paper
- stay for all of Canadian Cinema this week
- learn how to play video games. I was playing this dumb racing game I found at Blockbuster for $10, playing it on 'just me and my dumb fingers' mode and thinking I was doing okay... so I make it into 'me + dumb fingers versus PS2's giant computer brain' mode and after 15 seconds was curled into a weeping ball of frustration because how is it possible for futuristic cyborg motorcycle-people to die, anyway? *whimper*
- PLAY DDR, BIATCH!
- like, go to class? Maybe?

Was it Wipeout?

Anyways, I can train you in the art of gaming if you're so inclined. I can grab a few games from my buddy Joe, mostly because he has more games than he can ever play. If nothing else the PS2 will mean I've over more often anyways ;P

stay for all of Canadian Cinema this week

But DDR-drinking?!

Eh, mi Hobbit Hole es tu Hobbit Hole. And I bought another controller! So I have two! *bounce*

But DDR-drinking?!
We can still do that after class! I feel bad that I've only stayed for three classes so far, is all. *THEN* we can make our own iPod ad! (Bwa!)

Yuppers! I decided Thursday night (ca. 9:30pm) that I wanted one (well, that I couldn't live without DDR at home) so between eBay, craigslist and HMV, I have been *enabled*.

Sam said she'd help induct/instruct me in the ways of RP, so I may be Suikoden'ing in the (near?) future.

And I will be doing that. Dude, when our classes are done with for the Fall, I'm picking a weekend and I'm going to teach you the art of gaming, an art which I have perfected for over... nearly fifteen years of my life. :D;;; I am passionate about gaming... kind of like how you are with film!

Woot! I am so looking forward to that. Win x a billion!

I'm playing this racing game and failing so very, very much. *is sad*
From: [identity profile] serrico.livejournal.com
Aw, whyfore the WoO hate? Sure, the message is confused as all hell, but--singing! Skipping! Flying monkeys! (Or did you mean the book? Because yes, it is a Badly-Written Book.)

Have you read Was yet? Isn't it interesting compared to the world of fanfic?

Yay, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes! I found the movie to be a great disappointment after the literate glory that is the book.

All my love and impressed-ness for that class (right now) is going towards the Emma vs Clueless pair. And yes, I liked Emma by the end. :D

I never did watch WoO (hee! "woo"!) as a kid - I think I was twelve before I saw the whole movie - and watching it now, I find it's quite unsettling. Unsettling like clowns are unsettling, I guess. My tutorial and TA aren't helping matters, either. We never really got beyond the "Cowardly Lion is coded as gay" and "zomg, list the differences between the film and the book!" level of analysis. I suppose I feel about WoO (hee!) the same as some feel about Star Wars: it's part of my culture, I know the stories, get the references (was forced to sing/hear others sing "Over the Rainbow" at Kiwanis) but I don't actually like it.

Back in first year, we had a fun time picking the film apart for its political messages. In this class we aren't doing nearly as much with the texts, and the idea of transferring narrative from one to the other, to keep me interested. There's a lot that could be there, but my tutorial and TA seem particularly resistant to making it interesting. And on a Friday afternoon, I need to be led there.[/rant]

Ian Balfour is amazing, though. Worth the price of admission alone, is that one.

I haven't read Was, but now I will. We did watch a clip of The Wiz (with the scarecrow) that left us all scarred.

The copy of Gentlemen I picked up also has But Gentlemen Marry Brunettes, so I'm looking forward to getting into those.

We can make a Venn diagram! "Times in which I am content vs. Times in which I am not playing PS2".

I don't think those circles won't be touching.

Heeee, hehe hehehe. Right now, the only space the circles overlap is "Times in which I am playing PS2 using my feet, because dance pads have fewer confusing buttons than those controller-things".

I'm in Shannon Meek's 3:30 tutorial (and I think she hates us).

I have an outline, and an idea of where I'm going to take it, but I have zero interest in the topic. But it's only 1000 words so it shouldn't take too long. What are you going to write on?

You're in the one after met, with Josh :) I have her 2:30. She's pretty nice to use though...

I'm going to write about the Wizard of Oz, the magical items noe. I have to narrow it down though... :( I don't know how to start.I had half of my essay written and then it disappeared.

Josh seems like a nice guy. Nice guy with a brain.

Did the computer eat your essay? That would really suck. I mean, it sucks anyway, but still. Bugger.

Josh is nice, but sometimes he's a little too happy, if you get what I mean...

Yeah, it ate it. I wrote about half of it, had just one paragraphs and the conclusion -- then it would be fine-tuning it -- and I know I saved it, but... I couldn't find it through a search option, recent files, anything.

It made me very, very, sad and angry.

I don't know him that well, but he seems like he's always *on*. It's cute, like a golden lab puppy is cute.

Last year I lost about three papers because computers hated me for a while. I have sympathy. Best of luck recreating the paper - I don't envy you, but I've been there.
