Madonna's Support for Kabbalah Concerns Vatican
Madonna's precarious relationship with the Vatican is under scrutiny again following their concern over her support of the controversial Kabbalah faith. While the "Papa Don't Preach" star, 45, is a staunch supporter of the mystical offshoot of Judaism - Catholic leaders are holding a summit to discuss any fad religions they feel may pose a 'threat' to Christianity including the Kabbalah, according to American gossip site The Scoop. Cult expert Rick Ross says, "In the past, the Pope has criticized Madonna for the contents of her concerts. Now, ironically, it's become a theological issue." The Vatican is holding a special summit with Catholic leaders from around the world with the aim to negotiate a deal with so-called 'New Age' religions and fads that pose a 'threat' to Christianity.
Negotiate with the New Agers... I want to be a fly on the wall of that conference room by golly. The pope, flailing around, trying to bash wiccans and athiests and kabbalahists with his big pope-stick; monks surround the infidels and use super-soakers to blast them with holy water... obese goths moan in the corner, trying to call the power of that goddess; the satanists brought their goats but as yet have only been able to melt the hem of the pope's polyester robe (no hell-fire as yet).
Negotiate, my ass. "Stop taking my followers!" I wonder if they consider protestantism to be a religious fad.
All religions, new age or no, are all the same. *snort* Even atheism is a version of religion, because not believing in The Great Splorchbeast is still acknowledging the possible existance of said Splorchbeast. I mean... I don't believe in 60-foot purple giraffes but it's not like I call myself an a-giraffite.
Ergo: advocate the absense of religion. The absense of atheism, the absense of theism... areligion. If enough people are areligious (not atheistic, but areligious) we can mock everyone into feeling silly. Or we can spawn a new Reformation, which is what happened the last time they tried it. Feh.
It's too early in the morning to be thinking. *brain off*

Date: 2004-06-24 06:48 pm (UTC)I can get Pope-pirate, but I just can't see a troup of Jesuits hauling in the mainsail, matey and arrr walking the plank. However, those medieval monks did have quite the reputation... Heidelberg is the home of the world's largest beer keg (which is in a monestary).
Now I'm scared of monks.
