It's done! It's finally done! That Mopey Incestuous Codependent Petrelli Brothers fanmix I've been poking at for months is finally actually done! I would love to hear feedback on this because it changed so many times and I'm really quite happy with it. Especially track 4. I'm quite proud of track 4.

Find the zip file ( HERE ) and the song list

1. Peter Mulvey "The Trouble with Poets"
The trouble with you is you drive me nuts
I cannot tell what's behind your smile
A song for the kid at the back of the classroom staring out the window with his head in the clouds.

2. Radiohead "Where I End and You Begin"
There's a gap where we meet
Where I end and you begin
And I'm sorry for us
Nathan's a shark.

3. Azure Ray "Look To Me"
I know you're right as I begin to pack
Without raising your eyes I hear you sigh, "Oh you'll be back"
Because I look to you and you look to me
We're a real fucked up family
In fanon, the Petrelli boys don't want the brother love, they want that other love (with deepest apologies to Leonard Cohen for mangling his line)...

4. Eve 6 "At Least We're Dreaming"
To the corner to call collect
Your mother wants to know are you happy yet
Waitin' for someone to come along and find you
I get the feeling that pre-series Peter wasn't too happy.
This is probably also the Peter song for me (both pre-series and in the show itself).

5. Orenda Fink "Bloodline"
They'll take care of you
They're still your family
No matter what they've done to you
Also, incest! Yay!

6. Orgy "Blue Monday"
But I'm quite sure that you'll tell me
Just how I should feel today
Nathan and Peter have power and control issues. (They also have hot, wrong, incesty sex! Yay!)

7. The Sounds "Much Too Long"
I don't feel rejected but I feel neglected
You know me too well
But you keep twisting my arm
Nathan has a brother, a wife and a need to keep up appearances. Peter only has Nathan.

8. 30 Seconds To Mars "Savior"
Until you see, how could you believe?...
This is my chance, this is my chance
Peter, as he decides to go to Odessa.
(I know he only bought a one-way ticket.)

9. The Mountain Goats "Mole"

Nathan with Peter, after "Fallout"

10. Cyndi Lauper & Sarah Mclachlan "Time After Time (acoustic)"
Watching through windows
You're wondering if I'm OK
Romantic, yet with possessive overtones and a creepy aftertaste.

11. Tweaker "the house i grew up in"

This has that all-American quality, the nostalgia, the dream for better days both past and still to come.

(bonus 1) Andrew W.K. "I love NYC"
A bit too "up" for the rest of the mix, but it's here for all the times the boys fly around the city in dreams and in waking.

(bonus 2) Wintersleep "People Talk"
Almost the perfect N/P song. It's that the last line that kills it, the line that makes me collapse into inappropriate giggles.

I AM HERE TO DEFEND THAT WINTERSLEEP SONG.

See-- I looked up the lyrics and that line, talking about the brains falling out? It TOTALLY makes sense because Sylar eats brains. SEE? SEE??? What ever would you do without me?

Also: Azure Rayyyyy. A+++

FANKS!

But... but... the rest of the song you can take serious-like but the last line? KILLZ IT DED. Because then it's funny (zombies = hi-larious!, esp. Jayne!zombies (http://glassonion.populli.org/archive/7/bigdamn.shtml)) and Not At All Emo. (Random: Wintersleep played at my school last year.)

Amen on the Azure Ray, for all-round awesome. H'ver: I think the Orenda Fink song works even better.

YOUS WELCOME! Enjoy! (And let me know what you think of track 4, k?)

How is it that you get all the good concerts?? Hmph. :((( The White Stripes are actually coming here, but it'll be while I'm away for Shad so I'm missing.

Tegan & Sara are releasing a new album this summer so I'm hoping they'll be my first. Um, concert that is.

FO SRS. How do people write these songs and not have them be about brothers who are in love? Like-- REALLY.

That's the benefit of living in the country's biggest city. If you end up moving to Ottawa, you'll get your share of shows, don't you worry!

I hope I'll get to see T&S when they tour the new album because I missed them the last time they were around. I've never seen them. :(

How do people write these songs and not have them be about brothers who are in love? Like-- REALLY.
And then there are the tracks like Blue October's "For My Brother" and that Toad the Wet Sprocket one or Elton John's "Daniel My Brother" and they're just WOAH.

An overabundance of italics, because I can.

Music! About Heroes! From Char! (2 espresso shots at 8:30pm = not so good for the concentration or the coherency)

No, I must finish this damn dramaturgy* project, as 'tis due tomorrow. Shakespeare and Midsummer first, then music. Yes! The music will be my carrot. Prize. Reward. Thing.

*Dramaturgy? I swear, who thinks of these words? Why couldn't we call it something less bathroom-humor-inducing, like "theatrical research"? I've answered my own question: clearly, calling someone a Dramaturg is faaaar more amusing!
From: [identity profile] naturelf.livejournal.com
I’m quite excited that you’re so excited about this mix! Maybe I’ll post the outtakes in a few days (I’d say tomorrow, but that usually means one week later, so no promises). The outtakes are on the whole darker and angrier than what I posted, except for that Toad the Wet Sprocket song, which is positively fluffy. Espresso is evil, why would you do something like that to yourself? (Best evening ever: discovering the hand-made coffee ice cream actually had lots of coffee in it and therefore probably shouldn’t have been et after 9pm.)

I do like the word dramaturgy, because it’s far cooler sounding than film theory. Because seriously, what is that? People sitting around and agreeing that film theoretically could exist? Dramaturge, however, sounds weighty. And also vaguely sexual. And being a Dramaturg would be an awesome line to put on a resume!
From: [identity profile] piratefanatic.livejournal.com
Oh, outtakes! That means more music. It goes into my "Naturelf's Music" folder (it started before I actually knew your name) and there is much rejoicing.

OOO. Handmade coffee icecream? That sounds heavenly! I'm nibbling on muddie buddies that my awesomely adoreable sister made and sent up as exam fodder. They're rice Chex covered in melted chocolate and a hint of peanut butter, then rolled in powered sugar. That, my friend, is the good crack. And the fabulous sis sent up two huge bags of the stuff! Much yummyness.

I'm Dramagurging (*snerfle*) for next semester's production of Jungalbook, so repeated use of the word is in store! Now I'm off to finish my last 2 papers (ok, one's just a 3 page "personal reflection"). Unsurprisingly, I'm writting about Midsummer for the real paper. Actually, I'm writing about Puck, Bottom, and the role of the Fool in Midsummer. Gawd I love this play!
From: [identity profile] piratefanatic.livejournal.com
Also, if you spoonerize "dramaturge," you end up with "tramadurge" which is equally as awesome. A funerial** march for someone who worked in a hospital? Or perhaps for someone who died in a nasty carcrash? Umm, no, I don't have any idea why I find this amusing. Perhaps 'cause I've got less that 24 hours left at school and my brain is leaking out my ears.

*which is, in fact, not the same as venereal, but my inner 12 year old boy snickers all the same.

Avoiding Midsummer? Who, me?
From: [identity profile] piratefanatic.livejournal.com
Sweet! Read the subjects in order and you've got the first half of the Awesomest Monologue Ever. Yes I just realized this. Yes, I'm now leaving comments of no substance. Yes, I'm avoiding the paper.
From: [identity profile] piratefanatic.livejournal.com
Look! A different icon for each comment! Remarkable how many of them are Stargate related.

I know I've told this story before, but in grade 7 & 8 English we had to memorize parts of the plays we were reading in class. Puck's ending thing is what I know from grade 8. Win.
From: [identity profile] piratefanatic.livejournal.com
You hadn't mentioned that actually. And it makes me giggle, as 8th grade Enlgish was my intorduction to Midsummer as well.

Ooo! Since I'm on a music kick at the moment... my next playlist project is going to be a Midsummer playlist! Yays!

YAY! "Red Rover" is my favourite of theirs, hands down (and I was listening to "Strange Religion" yesterday, too... how crazy is that?).

What other songs are you going to put on?

Self-pimpage: I just posted a pile of music, most or all of which I'm sure you'll like. The Architecture in Helsinki track, particularly. :D

Hehe. I'm in the midst of downloading aforementioned pile, and just commented on it!

As far as the other songs, I've no idea. Haven't actually gotten so far as to, ya know, think about it yet. Just liked the idea. *sheepish*

GAA! I'm listening to "Strange Religion" right now!

Remember that show I basically forced you to watch? Some fans figure that some characters are having hot monkey secks with each other, and that those some characters include a pair of brothers. You know how you hear about weird things on the intarwebs? This is one of those weird things.

Secks or no, those two guys had a fucked-up childhood and crazy parents and keep touching each other.

Download the songs. I spent a lot of time putting them in that order. Do it and I may consider picnics.

Hey! We are supposed to meet for coffee tomorrow, except, uh, I have run into a problem. I've been waiting forever for a package and I just got a failed delivery notice this afternoon; they are, of course, coming back again tomorrow after 2PM. I've tried to find someone in the building to take the package for me, but no one is going to be here. :(

Depending on what else you've got going on tomorrow, I thought we could do one of three things. One, if you want to e-mail me your phone number (2 at sympatico dot cee ay), I can give you a call if the package comes at like 2:01 or something, which is not out of the realm of possibility as UPS is often in this area on the early end. Two, if you're not doing anything in the early evening, we could do it then instead. Or three, we can cancel it and try to find another day.

I'm really sorry about this--I know we've had it planned for a while. Unfortunately, I really need to get this package before the weekend. Gah, I sort of had a feeling this was going to happen.

I'm a wee bit outdated, as I haven't seen all the eps in order, and haven't seen the last 4 at all. I'll be remedying that soon, I promise! But as soon as I do, I'd love to chat about characters, 'cause character analysis hits pretty much all my Happy Geek buttons.
