Tonight, on Heroes: [livejournal.com profile] alexmegami, we were right. The show is all about parents and children and children atoning for their parents' mistakes. And Linderman totally did use healing Heidi as a bargaining chip.

The part of the episode where Jessica, DL, Parkman and Mr Bennet are in the elevator? HIGH COMEDY. As was Peter's *snerk* to Claire's suggestion that they fly to Nevada or Nebraska or whatever state started with N that they were going to. They've got such a great cast, but in these last few episodes they've been dealing in even broader strokes than before. They don't let those little, subtle, real moments happen.

Hiro's realization that he has to be "ready to cut out his heart"? Poor fluffy Hiro.

Other than that... I guess we've been building to here for so long that finally getting here isn't that much of a shocker. It's just seeing how it all plays out. And whose brains get eaten/removed.

...

We watched The Mission in class today. Highly recommended for any Jeremy Irons fans. He plays a soft, fuzzy, sun-browned, JESUIT PRIEST* IN A JUNGLE and his voice, that low, drawly, British, sarcastic voice keeps showing up. GUH. Liam Neeson's also there AS A PRIEST IN THE JUNGLE. De Niro, too (with really great hair towards the end of the film). LOTS OF PRETTY. (and a random priest named Ralph. in 1750. *koff*) [ETA: the movie itself is very bad. Pretty, but bad. *insert whatever joke there*]

*am glad am not Catholic. Too much GUH in priest movies.

...

Also? MONTREAL MONTREAL MONTREAL NEXT WEEKEND OH EM GEE IT'S GOING TO BE SKFH:SIRHJNFLAJSLDHF KSJDN:EWIHR :SOI WOW!

I'll probably get my ride to drop me off on the way back from Montreal. You, you've got the shiny new integrated Durham transit...

Yes but well yes. Montreal is nice I guess. I suppose... I suppose it'll have to do.

PS. I've been playing City of Heroes and I'm a superhero now. (Also a big nerd.) I demonstrated this to Reed and now you know too!

PPS. I hope Montreal will be flavourful.

I plan on doing nothing in Montreal but eating pastries and drinking lots of wine. There, I said it.

Congrats on City of Heroes, but you'll never catch me on a game where there's a monthly fee. :(

Hopefully this song (http://www.sendspace.com/file/6p3cj2) amuses you as it does me.

I actually wrote that in my notebook, and then wrote SPORK about nine more times after it on the next two lines. Then I started writing about how pretty Jeremy Irons' voice is. Then I wrote a Heroes drabble. Then I wrote a treatise on how the film's large budget was a hypocritical contradiction of the film's supposed message.

Then there was another hour of the film left.

Maaaaaaaaaaaaybe. It wasn't anything new, just the beginning of the Claire fairy tale I'd posted before. I didn't get all that far because I decided to just think impure thoughts about the pretty pretty priests on the screen.

Ando, I'd think. Future!Hiro got all dark and broody after he'd lost Ando in the explosion.

Your turn: do you think Sylar expects to survive the explosion? It's hinted that Peter survived because he could heal. Sylar doesn't have that power.

He's gotta have some kind of healing (or possibly not-being-able-to-be-hurt) power, since he's survived being shot by both Matt and Mr. Bennet, as well as plunging from that wall with Peter. But then why "save the cheerleader, save the world"? I'm soo confused...

If not not-being-able-to-be-hurt, then at least really skilled telekinesis (which we've seen) that he uses to stop bullets.

But with the wall, you raise a good point. Peter died. Sylar... limped away?

From the webcomic (I know, I know, it's only marginally canon), they show Sylar as being pretty seriously injured by the fall. He did land on top of Peter, so I guess that's some kind of cushion (though a spindly emo one).

After more thought about this, I realized I'd forgotten that Sylar was able to make hand-fireballs and not have singed paws afterwards. Plus, with all those powers, he was pretty good at controlling them, and making them behave as he wanted.

I have no idea why "save the cheerleader, save the world". Maybe so that Peter would be rebootable after getting the glass shard? So that Claire would survive to seek out her birth parents and get Nathan to reveal his soft and fluffy side and not become a scary totalitarian president? Or maybe just to give Peter a mission so that he got the hell out of New York while Sylar was still there. I don't know, either. Sigh. It's catchy, though.

*thinks* Ted didn't burn himself, but on the other hand, Sylar doesn't know that. On the other hand, he might be able to create a protective telekinetic bubble around himself.

On the other hand, in the future, was it Sylar or Peter that blew up? My impression was Sylar, but Claire was alive, so... I think he expects to be immune to his own powers.

I thought of the Ted thing after I hit post, but I'm not sure if Sylar knows exactly what to do. He's not quite like Peter, so in love with the idea of being a hero that he'd run off to save a random stranger because some dude with a sword told him to. That was the defining character moment for Peter, when we realize that he wasn't expecting to survive going to Texas. Point: since the show likes to set those two up as doubles, I'd wonder about Sylar's real motivation.

But then, he did make fireballs okay with his hands and they were fine after. Okay. It was a silly question on my part. :)

In the future, though, it was Peter who blew up. Evil President Sylar!Nathan put 'round the story that it was Sylar who'd exploded (and thereafter died in the blast), all in order to cover for Peter's little explody accident (and face-scar, which is still WTF).
From: [identity profile] philthe25th.livejournal.com
Both, depending on the timeline. If Sylar killed Claire, he'd explode and survive using her power [shortly after Hiro tried to unsuccessfully kill Sylar] whereas in the timeline where Claire was saved, the events outlined by Char unfolded.

As for the episode, I think it's understandable that it's being broad, given it's switching to epic mode. It's also nice to just see things actually connect and to forget how useless DL and Niki/Jessica were for every other episode of the season. I'm still waiting to see how things pan out in the next episode before calling it one way or another.

I'd have to watch the ep again to be sure, but I thought Future!Hiro said that Sylar having Claire's power prevented him from being killed before going boom, as opposed to allowing him to survive going boom. Ted did appear to be immune to his own power, so regardless of whether it was Peter or Sylar who exploded, I'm assuming he would survive.

Lemme find the whiteboard picture...

I'm going on the assumption that if Peter can survive going boom in timeline B, Sylar can in timeline A. Regardless, both had Claire's power when they went boom in their respective timelines.

Save the lj, save the world?

- get Sam to watch Brazil ('cause she wants to)
- head home tomorrow
- finish the Thing That Needs Finishing by 3pm
- mop all the floors ('cause I have to)
- make a dinner
- watch SPN 'til it's done ('cause I read another SPN/AtS crossover the other night... and also, you know, stuff)

:D?

I agree; having the splody-power does seem to grant immunity from the splody itself.

What I'm wondering about now is when did Sylar kill Nathan in the alt. timeline? Soon enough after the explosion to be able to put 'round the story of his (Sylar's) death, but how close to the election? And before or after?
