A while back,
piratefanatic prodded me to start watching this Brotherhood 2.0 site. Two brothers are taking a year and communicating only through video posts. It's a cool idea, and considering that the brothers in question are intelligent, well-spoken dudes with healthy senses of humour, it's an experiment that's pretty darn successful.
The other fun think about John and Hank Green is that they're huge nerds. How huge? Well... huge enough to write an awesome song about Harry Potter:
EDIT: The Doctor Who s3 finale,
For
serrico, who asked if I'd seen the finale yet: a play-by-play of “Last of the Time Lords”
- ONE YEAR LATER?!
- this is going to mean Reset Button, so it had better be a good reset button
- oh gods... a whole year of The Master like that? EXCELLENT song choice, but jeez. A whole year of a hyperactive overlord would be enough to drive anyone mad.
- Is that bruising on Lucy's cheek? Interesting, if it is.
- tee hee a captive Jack!
- “Anything else I should know?” “I've met Shakespeare.” HA!
- those Togliphane things have such cute happy personalities
- way to flash back to your first episode, Martha. Carrying a torch, much?
- Ah. Nice to know that Jack not only has immortality, he has super-strength!
- “Say hello, Gandalf!” hehehhehehhehhee
- that professor-lady has a great face
- This whole Martha-as-saviour/survivor puts me in mind of that “Army Days” song by Zubot And Dawson; I keep coming back to that line about “Heroes through some daring act that depended on us being lovers”, and that makes me happy 'cause pairings are fun
- Oooh! What's inside the cute little sphere?
- speaking of cute, that Doctor-thing is very adorable. In a sad and pathetic way. But they gave him a little suit. Which is just... adorable.
- WHAT'S IN THE ORB-THING???
- Hee! Oh, man. That's so cool. Flying human face orb things. Creepy, but awesome.
- “Why do you kill us?” “Because it's FUN! *bwahaaha*” Heh.
- oh, the nice professor-lady betrayed them. Quelle suprise.
- SRSLY. How awesome are these music cues?
- “I never could resist a ticking clock.” *snerk*
- he's going to get awful stuck in that cage when he gets bigger
- All of humanity: *claps claps claps* "I DO BELIEVE IN DOCTOR! I DO BELIEVE IN DOCTOR"
- HEEEEE! Superpowers! HEH EHEHEHEEHE! He's got superpowers! (he's also close to a Pratchettean god, I guess, fed by belief?)
- Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand they race for the reset button. And it's a literal reset button. Squee.
- tee hee montage of stock footage
- HA HAHHAHAHHAHHA ha. The president is still dead.
- he's going to settle down with his crazy childhood friend, is he? With the crazy Time Lord as his kept man?
- oh. Guess not, then.
- NOICE! Very Viking of him. (also: still loving the music on this one. It's all happy while the action is sad, and the combined effect is all powerful and stuff. Also: THE DOCTOR HAD SUPERPOWERS!)
- Um, Jack? I've seen Torchwood. Your team? Doesn't need you so much as they need intensive therapy. Just saying is all.
- hahahahhahahaah face of Boe. Holy bajeeblies. That is TOO funny.
- Martha's theme song? “Hopelessly Devoted to You” (with a side order of “Second Best” by The Basics)
- Martha is so awesome, 'cause she left him. It was her choice, not him ditching her, or her making up an excuse for him about wanting to live a quiet life with her family or some shit. She done gave him the goods, straight up. *high fives to Martha, She With Confidence and a Backbone*
- tee hee TARDIS got boat'ed. Or boat got TARDIS'd.
- OH. Titanic got TARDIS'd. V. nice, v. nice.
This show is so much fun. And now I have to wait until Christmas for more. *checks calendar* How many more days until Christmas, anyway?

Date: 2007-07-22 03:35 pm (UTC)So pretty much that exactly what wen through by brain during this ep, including verbatim thoughts** about Lucy's cheek bruise, the Doctor getting stuck in the cage, and "I do believe in Doctor." I mean, I'm pretty much in line with everything you said, but those comments were exactly what went through my head.
Doctor: Oh glowy blue Doctor, how you make me happy! I was bouncing on the couch and chewing on my knuckles and making all sorts of faces for pretty much the last 20 minutes of the ep, but his "Live, fucker!" bit shut me up entirely. And I'm sooooo adding that clip to my closet of acting preparation bits. 'Cause Tennant is now officially one of my acting muses.
Face of Boe: I actually yelled when he said that (frightened the wits out of the poor puppy dogs, I'm sure), paused to let it sink in, and shrieked again. For some reason that made me SO FRELLING HAPPY.
Martha leaving: With the coming back in to the TARDIS, I almost expected a "But i just can't stay away" sort of thing and that would have made me a grumpypants. But then she was all "So this is me leaving" and I just wanted to hug her. A lot. And hug the Doctor too. 'Cause he always needs hugs. YAY Martha!
Titanic: After I yelped about the ship and laughed my head off at exactly which ship it is, I realized I totally should have seen that coming. The title of the Christmas ep is "Voyage of the Damned"; what other voyage would they be referring to!? It aaaaaall makes sense now!
**can thoughts be verbatim? If "verbatim" means "in exact words" and thoughts aren't really words?

Date: 2007-07-22 10:45 pm (UTC)Tennant is now officially one of my acting muses.
Yay! I was struck by how he's commanding that his friend to REGENERATE, not asking, or pleading, or coaxing - commanding. *chills*
I'd been spoiled on the Face of Boe thing, so my reaction was more appreciating how they worked it in to the episode without making it too gimmicky or contrived. And also watching the Doctor's reaction. 'Cause he and that face... they go waaaaaaaaaaay back. Hehhhehehehe.
I'll probably toddle off after I write this reply to listen to the podcast commentary for that last episode, just to hear what they have to say about Martha's departure (and to make sure that props are duly given).
What didn't I love about that scene, though? Ten, knowing that she couldn't be convinced but pretending anyway, on the wild chance that he could be wrong. Martha, fighting a never-to-be-requited crush and armed with that whole year's experience of surviving, complicated by the fact that her love and admiration and need for the Doctor is not only what kept her going for that long year, but that preaching that love is what saved the human race.
And that year of being strong for herself and for the Doctor has given her a new understanding of her own strength, and how she will be needed by her family. The Doctor, who has no one to go back to now that the Tylers and Mickey are in that other dimension and his bff is dead, can't barely stand the idea of being alone yet again but he knows he can't force Martha along for the ride.
AND ALL THAT WAS SUBTEXT AND NONE OF IT WAS ACTUALLY SPOKEN AND OMG OMG OMG *FLAILS*.
Oooooooh theeeeeey built the ship Titanic to sail the ocean blue, and they thought they had a ship that the water wouldn't go through BUuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut the Good Lord raised his hand, said "That ship'll never land!" It was saa-ad when the grea-aat ship went down. (Everybody!) Oh it was sad, so sad, it was sad when the great ship went down to the bottom of the (husbands and wives, little children lost their lives!) it was sad when the great ship went down!
/Guide camp flashbacks.
Also: The potential for Ten-woobie faces when the ship is sinking and he can't do anything so save them? *makes ev0l noises*
(Also: did you listen to the "In My Pants" song? HEHEHEHHEHEHHE.)
