OH EM GEE.

Gareth David-Lloyd is going to be at Polaris/Toronto Trek.

The one consistently good part of Torchwood! At Toronto Trek!

And irony of ironies, the very weekend after TT I've got plans to be in Cardiff...

Ooooh, you're going to be here! Cool, that means I'll know someone who's going... mind if I tag along?

Ianto is so much ♥. Easily the best thing about the show, hands down. That and the pterodactyl.

More the merrier! My friend [livejournal.com profile] guntar is going to try and make it out for it as well. ... and I imagine we'll be running into [livejournal.com profile] boywhocantsayno at some point, though he'll be busy running things.

Huzzah for having nerdy friends! :D

And yeah. Ianto (and the pterodactyl!) are the best things about the show. I was just saying that the other day. One of my favourite things about Ianto is his shocked/frightened face.

... even though "Countrycide" wasn't the greatest of episodes, it was just full of priceless Ianto faces:

Awesome! And yes - hooray for nerdy friends. I couldn't quiiiite justify going all that way to gawk at a Welshman if I was alone. That goes from being fun to strange real quick.

And hooray for Ianto's wide-eyed WTF face! "Countrycide" was nowhere near as bad as that damn episode with the fairies. I mean, seriously? Way to take a great concept and totally murder it. Oooh, something spooky that's not technically alien. Great potential, cruddy execution. (Well, it is Torchwood we're talking about here... sigh.)

I watched a bit of Moonlight last night and was thoroughly impressed with him. Jason Dohring, that is. My initial reaction was "meh, he's good at playing the rich jackass, but naught else." But the more I watched him, I realized his strength is actually acting against someone else. He is REALLY REALLY REALLY good at hitting people's buttons, and doing so dynamically. I would bet money he's Method trained. That's (partially) what makes him play such engaging assholes. I wouldn't normally enjoy watching either his character in this or in VMars, but I find myself watching him more than anyone else on the screen.

Also, he is pritty.

Rich jackass, yes, but the rich jackass who’s all vulnerable and broken and a jackass only to protect himself from ANGST (♥ Logan) …ahem. But yeah – he’s characters shouldn’t be likable, but they’re always the only thing I’m watching when he’s on screen. I’ll keep coming back to that incredible chemistry between Veronica and Logan in the first season. Just! So! Good! It’s no surprise he’s my favourite thing about that show. *sigh* Poor, poor show.

There’s a later episode of Moonlight that has a bit more him in it than others. I’ll be interested to hear what you have to say about that one – acting and plot both. And about the (earlier) scene when he and Mick are reminiscing about how prostitution used to be so simple before escorts had their own websites. Tee hee. It’s one of those scenes where you want to reach into the show and shake Mick ‘cause he’s trying so hard to be old and mysterious but he’s really just a baby. Relatively speaking. :D

And pretty. Oh, the pretty.

Ooooh, Logan. *cuddles him*

I was somewhat surprised to find that he was undoubtedly also my favorite thing about the show, since I usually REALLY don't like jackasses. But then he went all vulnerable and my heartstrings went all "TWANG" and I loved him. Also, the OMG chemistry!

There was a moment in ep 3 that had me making grabby hands for him. It was a fast bit, past quickly, and I don't remember exactly what it was now. But I loved it. I will of course flail at you when I watch more. Also, I <3 his name. A lot.

Speaking of grabby hands acting moments, have you seen any of the Dresden Files?

I was surprised, too… not because of the jackass thing (I do love a good villain!) but surprised at how the show was called Veronica Mars but by the second season they had to struggle so hard to make her the most interesting character on screen. The process of discovering Logan (from asshat ringleader at first to his eventual status as woobie extrodinaire) was one of the joys of the show. I love how he know’s he’s fucked up, but damned if that doesn’t mean he’s going to keep that cocky exterior firmly in place. And then his entire family is revealed as being even worse people that he is. Woobie! Grabby hands!

There was a line in s3 in reply to something Veronica said, where his comeback was something like, “Too much college for you.” Some variant of the “dangerously overeducated” thing...

And I promise you, as I’ve promised a few others, that I’ll get on Dresden Files. No really!

Logan (well, Jason Dohring) does an awesome job of letting us see that majorly fucked up inside and then slamming the bravado walls back up. He continues to play the ass even though the audience knows he's got another side. And he does so successfully! There were many many many times I hated Logan with a passion, even though I knew he wasn't just being an ass for the fun of it. So then when we see more of his vulnerable side, it's got even more of a punch. *cuddles Logan*

Dresden Files was fun. Pretty lightweight, occasional bumps in the transition from book serial to tv show, but generally enjoyable. Some interesting bits about making the supernatural conform to human law (or not) and making supernatural conform to supernatural law (or not). There's a ghost who drove me nuts in the first ep and who I subsequently fell in love with (he's an academic. He wears an ascot. I have no shame). And then, in a later ep, he has this MOMENT OF AWESOME that I watched 7 times. It's one of those happy-making acting moments even though it's v. short. Maybe 20 seconds at most? But it made me squeee.

Yeah, he's such a woobie-tease.

even though I knew he wasn't just being an ass for the fun of it.
Yes! He's such an interesting character, or at least, he's been written really well. Far better than, say, Duncan (or Meg, lol).

I... don't seem to have any Dresden Files downloaded. HORRORS! Also: TO THE INTARWEBS! Though the law/supernatural thing is going to be jolly fodder for future academic pursuits. It's not "watching tv". It's research!

I want to see more that he's done. Want to compare acting styles! Want want want!

Yeeeah, my mention of the law and supernatural was for that purpose exactly: see, it's research!

Though don't expect Great Moral Conundrums out of DF. It's really just fuzzy (with a bit of whumping here and there).

Hmmm, he's been in a whole lot of Bad Movies, it seems. Maybe he'll be our generation's James Spader. Plays a lot of jerks, but can totally command any and every scene he's in. Just get him in a movie with Shia LaBeouf and you've got the new RDJ there, too. (Yes, it's A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints that's done it... oh, Shia.)

I love research, though so far all I've discovered is that if a wizard whines at a cop long enough, she'll always give in. Srsly though, I'm really enjoying their interaction - he's dependent on her for so many things (access, for one)....

Whumping like "omg acting out violent death of teenage girl". Yeah, I'll bet they covered that in advanced acting classes. Heh. Woobie Acting 101.
