Dalek-in-progress photos after the cut:

The red-and-black one is for [livejournal.com profile] firstgold. She picked those colours months ago, and we both thought, "Well, they had red-and-black daleks back in the early 70s, why not. Kooky, but fun." Then I saw some of the promo pics for the end of this current season and started to laugh. We are so good.

In that last photo, I'm making the "YES OKAY I SMILE FOR PICTURE FINE TAKE THE DAMN PICTURE" face. But I include it to give you an idea of the scale of these cute little beasties. This makes 5 I've knitted. I've promised one more to Teagan and then I think I'll take another year break before I do any more.

Hahaha... tee hee.

These are the smaller ones - I used bigger needles on my first try and the thing was way oversized.

Also: have now started in on the second season of BSG. A coworker lent me his DVDs and I realized that it was just the first five episodes of s1 that bored me, not the whole series. :D

Ooh, yay! *claps*

And wait-how were you bored by the first five episodes? HOW??

I... I don't know. I think it's because they were setting up the rules of the world and putting all the pieces in place that would make sense later (and at that point there weren't people declaring it the Best Show On Television EVAR), so I suppose I got impatient.

What I'm enjoying about the show - the show's take on religion and spirituality and the way they don't write to the lowest common denominator - wasn't immediately apparent to me in those early eps. And they kept making Apollo into an action hero, where he's much better off being angsty, pretty and reluctantly heroic. (*pats Apollo*... *runs off to watch more Horatio Hornblower*)

But all that is past and I'm cheerfully plowing through episodes and enjoying the military drama political soap opera with killer robots IN SPAAAACE.

Tonight, however, I need to get properly caught up on Doctor Who. See, every companion in the new series I liked better than the last one, so now Rose is my 3rd favourite...

Hmm, weird. By the end of the first episode, I was definitely hooked (waited for after the miniseries to confirm hooked-ness on show, as the miniseries might have been a fluke). You know, the scruff. THE SCRUFF, CHARLOTTE, HOW CAN YOU NOT FALL-ok, nevermind, I'm calm...

Ugh, Apollo. Pretty to look at, but...no, he's pretty. And actually, I kinda like him. Really. Just that in comparison for my love for Roslin and Adama, well...he pales. In comparison, that is.

Oooh, and yay! I'm super excited for the finale tomorrow night, weee! I hope my dealerthe person I download from uploads as soon as humanly possible.

I was all fired up after the miniseries, and did watch through five episodes after it... but then lost interest.

And yes. Scruff. And Billy!

I totally agree, though. Roslin and Adama have interesting characters (with, like, complex motivations? and stuff) whereas Apollo... has pretty-boy issues. He's still a better-drawn character than other young men on other shows, but Lost Little Man-Child (Who Is Pretty) is a one-note kinda guy. It's a pretty note, and I do like it. But there's just the one.

I've got my connections, too. The open torrents, thebox.bz torrents (which need a login) and the super seekrit special Other Source (which is usually the quickest and most reliable). However, with two computers and two connections... ^_^

BILLY! *huggles* I loff him. A lot. He's got that little bit of chubby face-ness going and the curly hair...so cute! But he also has personality, and balls for being the Presidential Aide, even though he has no idea about teh wimminz.

Oh and hey-Zarek? The ORIGINAL Apollo from BSG. Cool, huh? As soon as I realised this, he suddenly looked a lot more 70s to me.

And yeah, Apollo is a pretty well-developed young man character, and in some episodes you will just squee with love for him because of his awesomeness, but others, you will just look at him and swoon a little while trying to focus on what he is saying.

:D Got any non-spoilery theories as to what will happen tomorrow night?

I think Billy wins for best kinda-background character. He's such a luffable guy. With his cheap shirts and bad ties. *siiiigh*

Ha! He does look 70s. Though Adama's flashback facial hair (and the wigs!) were woah scary. Apparently the 70s happened in that timeline/universe, too. Poor timeline/universe.

There are for sure some times where you don't hear anything that Apollo says. I was telling a friend about the show and ended up just talking about him and his pretty pretty face.

I... have no theories. I'm three episodes behind at this point, so in my knowledge of the show they've just left the library. But it's been a whole season and no daleks have shown up yet. Therefore: daleks. The bitchy part of my mind is expecting Rose to be selfish and break the universe. With daleks. Then the Doctor will forget whatever lessons he's learned in the past two years and regress. Or something better could happen. Jack could grow some depth? Rose could not break the universe? Mostly I want to see Mickey and Jackie again. Argh when will the work day be over so I can go watch episodes?

Hey, don't hate on the Adamastache. (but yeah, the first time I saw it, I totally screamed. In amazement? Disgust? We shall never know...)

YOU'RE THREE EPISODES BEHIND?!?! HOW?!

And when can I come over and stealborrow your X Files DVDs?

It's hard to hate on the Adamastache because there's so much there to love. Truly.

Because... I've been working? And um... watching BSG?

You can come over any old time. I get home from work around 6, so "any old time" would be "after 6" on weekdays. This weekend I'm here tomorrow morning and then gone on Sunday.

Ok. I'm coming over today. Like, now. Is this ok? I will await confirmation as my phone has no minutes.

And ok, I'll give you the excuse of watching BSG, because it is epically amazing, but work? Come on Charlotte-you can do better then that! ; )

Hee - sure, is fine, is fine. Come on by!

I've watched "Midnight" and "Turn Left" now, and have to decide if I want to do a third DW now or take a break for another variety of killer robot.

YAY DALEK!

ALSO - the colours of the Master Dalek are very close to those of Iron Man.

Coincidence?

I suppose so, but only if you don't mind waiting a year+ for yours.

It's not my design - if you'd like to take a crack at making one the pattern is here (http://www.entropyhouse.com/penwiper/who/extermaknit.html). They're remarkably easy to make and the pattern is quite clear and well-written.

Time was you could scoot around, exterminating whatever the Dalek central programming told you to. None of this free will and emotion. Yes, back in the good old days it was exterminating any and all who weren't Daleks. All day every day. And no nasty grumbling for time off. We're Daleks! We exist to exterminate!
