You know how some (most) dance hits are performed by gimmicky pop tarts with no real talent? Watch this video and tell me if your opinion of Lady GaGa changes.

John Sakamoto (in his Anti-Hit List column for the Toronto Star) said this about it: "Hearing this throbbing dance-floor hit transformed into something you might expect to hear in rehearsals for a Broadway musical simply proves just how much more there is to this performer than great singles and witty videos".

And for the sake of comparison, the original song:

EDIT: the acoustic version is now on sale at iTunes - I guess the popularity of "Poker Face" a la cabaret was such that they found they could make a buck. Win!

Nice! I knew I liked her (this much) for a reason.

And catchy tunes! Woo! Totally going as her for halloween (along with every other person, I bet...) this year.

Totally! But it makes a difference when you know she can actually, you know, perform them.

Plenty of time to get your costume together... I always leave it too late and end up dressing like a pirate (again).

Wow, that was freakin' brilliant and funny. I want to be her when I grow up. Oh, wait that won't work on so many levels.

The original completely slammed against my "generic club music" filter, because I honestly thought it was ages old, probably confusing it with its half remembered Dance Mix '95 forefathers. But after listening to the live version, I actually like it a bit more. I can actually understand the lyrics like this lyrical gem: "I'm bluffin' with my muffin"

I had a similar reaction. I breezed past the original because it wasn't catchy or interesting. It was the comment about the Broadway-musical quality of the acoustic version that made me click through.

Not sure if it'll make me spend time with her other songs. I think this one might be just a novelty.

I have never heard this person before (I fail at pop culture) but she's obviously got a great voice.

On an unrelated note, I want to hug the great danes. They're adorable ^.^

Totally unexpected, eh? Good on her for picking a genre where she can make loads of cash, rather than just being known for, you know, having talent. In pop music, she can be good and popular!

They are, indeed, cute dogs.

Lol you forced me to give her respect feelings. She did it with the extra snaps on the piano :P

I know, eh? Amazing how much more of a person she becomes when it's just her and a piano.

I love her. My hairdresser told me to listen to the Poker Face song and I'm addicted.

Also, it's my 25th birthday soon and I'd really like you to be a part of the shenanigans, and Grant wants to see you to.

It's my parent's house, 8:30pm and we're going bowling.

I'd really love to see you.

Omg bowling! (Oh god, we are 25 this year, aren't we?)

I'm going to have to figure out Durham Transit! Are you doing in on the day? I've got evening classes.

And hey, if Grant wants to see me... :P
