The other day one of the stewards working at gig for which I was Head Steward noticed that my name badge was off-kilter. Instead of saying anything, he reached over to me - while I was telling him to get back to his door because he wasn't assigned "wandering aimlessly around the venue" for the intermission, jeez - and adjusted the name badge while said badge was still on my chest.

Yeah. Personal space, mister.

Then, two days later at a casual dinner for the incoming students, one of the new guys started eating chips/fries off my plate without asking. I wasn't going to finish them, but jeez. We just met, we're not dating, and just because I was right about Baghdad being a part of the Ottoman empire* doesn't mean you can eat my food.

*I said yes, he said no. I showed him proof on Wikipedia on my phone, but he wasn't satisfied until he pulled out his laptop and checked for himself. Jeez. Etc.

Taken together with last week's "man time" (heh, still funny)... I'm really valuing time spent with my considerate feminist male friends.

(I've also got a cold growing in its annoying-ness, but that's a separate issue.)

I'm the first to admit that my knowledge of Middle Eastern history is very much painted in broad strokes, but I was (and still am) confident that the Ottomans controlled more territory than Rome at its height, and that the Safavid dudes had a power base further east than the fertile crescent. So.

I mean, it could also be a Balkan way of defending an argument?

Speaking of feminist male friends, has news of the Institute of Canadian Values homophobic/transphobic ad in the National Post reached England?

I'd be more upset if there was threat involved, but the casualness of the invasion was certainly annoying.

The ad didn't make news here (that I can see, but I've been busy), but I did see it via Twitter and other sources. Organizations with Values and/or Family in their name aren't usually organizations I trust with a perception of reality congruent to my own.
