Canucky notions
Nov. 11th, 2011 09:45 amWhile flipping channels yesterday, I noticed I could've watched Murdoch Mysteries, Due South or The Border. (Yes, I'm still in England.)
Also, our new house manager is a) English (not a surprise) and b) a Maple Leafs fan (very surprising). We commiserated over ridiculous ticket prices, to the amusement of the assistant house manager (not much of a sports fan at all). I don't know if our previous house manager much liked being a house manager, but this new guy seems to like it so far.
Starting yesterday I'm keeping a viewing diary - the third week in the last year where I've done this - as part of a television research project. The group is charting our viewing during these years of digital anxiety. It's quite interesting to see who watches what, and how.* My first week last winter had no broadcast viewing at all. Of course, knowing I have to record everything means what I am watching gets shared with everyone.
*Not to mention the "what counts as television" debates. Television episodes are always television, but films are only sometimes television. eg: A film, shown on broadcast/cable and either watched live or DVRd: yes. The same film, accessible through iPlayer's TV tab, watched via a television set from the iPlayer app on a PS3: no.
