And more fun:

Noam Chomsky spoke at York today, so I toddled along and watched.
The man has interesting ideas, but I knew that. The talk was sponsored by the Palestinian Human Rights whatsit group thing, so guess the topic... The best part was when all the liberal arts wankers were asking questions and he told them they were stupid.

At the end the organizers did some announcements. I'm still giggling about it: "And on the 30th George Bush will be in Ottawa. There's sign-up lists on your way out of the lecture." No explanation of "There's gonna be a protest" or "you know, this might be a mighty fine opportunity to have your voice be heard" or anything. Just "Dubya's coming: sign up outside to protest." The word protest wasn't even said. It was implicit that, given the proximity of GWB, there would be protests and busses to get people to those protests. Fun times.

I've got 2 exams on that day.

If you're in to going, [livejournal.com profile] spells_disaster put some links up.

They were asking questions about Israel/Palestine that they'd prepared before the talk. After one kid asked her question he replied: I've just spoken for an hour about why what you just said is stupid. He was a bit nicer than saying "stupid" but still was clear that he was wasting Chomsky's time.

Another person asked something about the "indigenous people" of that area. He replied to her question, but first he had to explain that a) the questioner was a moron (but, nicely) and that b) the question of being indigenous in that area of the world was null.

There were a few more like that. People who were asking things that he'd covered in his talk, people who were asking about things that he'd refuted and dismissed in his talk, and long-winded arseholes that were using big words so Prof. Chomsky would know how eddycated they were.

Even worse than regular wankers are wankers that dont think they are one. Get off your high horse.
