Re: To the Ends of the Earth, starring Benedict Cumberbatch, Jared Harris (Don't cross the streams?), Sam Neill.

Sometimes an IMDb plot description is enticingly incoherent:
"In the early 1800s young Edmund Talbot travels on a not too sea-worthy ship to New South Wales to take up a post with its governor. He keeps a journal, recording his impressions of crew and passengers. He gets on well with the Captain, Anderson, an amateur botanist who grows plants in his cabin, but, due to a social gaffe, well-meaning young parson Colley falls foul of the captain, later getting drunk and having gay sex with crew members.* Despite Edmund's efforts to broker an understanding** he remains in his cabin, where he literally wastes away***."

* What kind of "social gaffe" ends in drunken sailor sex?
** An understanding regarding... what? The sex-causing gaffe? The offence caused to the amateur botanist captain that caused the sex-causing gaffe?
*** Uh huh. I'm sure he literally does.

And then there's stuff about threesomes and falling over and idek. On a boat. One of the IMDb forum threads complains about how the boat in the miniseries is, like, a TARDIS because all the cabins are, like, way too large for the size of the boat. (I'm thinking the series has bigger problems than that.)

I said to [personal profile] sesquipedaliatic "This sounds awful. Should I download this?" She said "YES!". We'll see.

Perhaps we'll watch it like we watched Merlin last night, fastforwarding through most of it and marvelling at Colin Morgan's inability to exhibit emotions beyond "pain" or "come-on".

*punchy*

You must watch it and report back to me about it, although maybe you'll have to drink a lot to get through it? IDK.
