Crash Course!

If you haven't been watching Crash Course, you've been missing a weekly dose of world history (and science, but I watch less of those because ow, paying attention to science = sore brain).

The background is: a YA author and his equally internet-famous brother are making free snippits of curriculum chunks for education and edification (and fun).

If you watch to the end of this one (all the way to the end), you'll see why I nearly snorted tea all over my netbook.

I've been having so much fun with Crash Course and SciShow! I usually load a few of them, then knit contentedly for an hour or so while John and Hank teach me things. What more do I need?!

I really should've taken more high school science, because Hank's episodes give me a headache. I found I had to watch them twice, and then stopped watching because I couldn't give over time to learning. Whereas all those HS and university history classes I took mean John's episodes mean I nod along to things I already know (and I enjoy his presentation of them).

That one full-year uni course about Islamic empires from 1200-1800 (the first two weeks of which was the history of Islam to 1200) has been so useful. Yes, I wrote the final paper on Pirates in the Mediterranean (whee!). But we also spent a few months on the Mongols. :D
