charloweenTuesday - MA students' work in progress presentations. All the MA students are obliged to gather and present their halfway-done 20K word final research papers to each other. PhD students are invited but not obliged to attend, which we do, mostly because gently questioning methodological gaps in others' nascent projects is easier than reconciling our own scholarly issues.
Wednesday - PhD students' "research methods" meeting, this time discussing our responses to a polemical 2009 special issue of a journal that argued against symptomatic (deep) literary readings and for greater attention to surfaces. Lots of prep reading (many papers) for 90 minutes that seemed to mostly be about the historical specificity of lesbians.
Thursday - late afternoon multi-institutional research meeting! That I co-coordinated with a colleague! We bought the food in the afternoon, and also accepted, collated and duplicated data to finish off two years' data collection for the group's latest investigation. Also got the space set up, chaired the meeting (me) and introduced the day's reading (colleague), and tried to appear vaguely competent in front of Real Grown-Up Academics.
Friday (TODAY) - multidisciplinary symposium in the department, organized by one of the previous day's group members, featuring papers by myself, the co-coordinator colleague, and The Recent Ex I Haven't Spoken To Since I Was Finally Dumped After A Month Of Fuckery Oh Yeah Just A Few Weeks Ago. In between everything else all week, we were rewriting and timing presentations. Oh, and and instead of normal questions after my panel it was an hour-long summation of a round-table discussion. Twice today The Ex was within acknowledging distance, but I did not engage.
And I'm working (for wages) ((non-academically)) very early tomorrow morning.
SUNDAY shall be glorious.
