I'm beginning to see the value of direct flights (or of paying the extra to re-book if plans change). Anyway. While there's a bleak sameness to airports, they're not entirely the same. (I wrote this last night on the bus.)

1. Montreal - the security staff were in jeans or commercial camo-print khakis. The bus route to the airport is #747. Full marks for LOLs.

2. Toronto (Billy Bishop) - arrivals areas not as fun as departure lounge. I hung around after landing and used their free wifi to send a few emails. One woman pointed at my suitcase and asked if it was from Boston (it wasn't).

3. Toronto (Pearson) - my favourite mix of security staff: bored-looking Sikhs and shouty Eastern Europeans. Had a great conversation with a stranger waiting for the next gate. We shared a wall outlet to charge our media. Good times.

4. Frankfurt - found a Captain Germany t-shirt in the style of a Captain America logo. All the kids in my corner of the departure lounge visited the vending machine and stared at it in awe.

5. Birmingham - 90% of the people in the non-EU passport line were obviously returning international students. The music in the cute little tram thing that links to the airport is still amusingly epic, which is familiar and reassuring.

The good news - if Aeroplan accepts my request for credit - is half of my next transatlantic flight will be in first class. Frequent flier miles actually make sense?

BUT THE IMPORTANT PART is I had a very excellent time in Canada. I didn't have enough time with anyone I visited, but the visits were excellent even in their brevity. Of course, in the snow and over the holidays it's no wonder Montreal looked like a magical wonderland (the company didn't hurt, either!) - definitely trying to resolve myself to Working Now and then Travelling To Hang Out Later.

And this time next week my flatmate will have moved out (and I'll have until Feb 1 before the new one moves in and hopefully I won't need to avoid her, too). YAY.

Incoherent me is incoherent! Time to go to bed and get my head back in this time zone. YAY.

Just the thought of that many airports is making my head spin. I did 4 in one day but I think that's my maximum.

I hope new flatmate is nicer than current flat mate
