1. The Graduate School confirms they have received my hard-bound final thesis (+ copy on CD!) and that now my name gets put on a list for admin to happen in a meeting, after which they'll confer the degree.

2. The student loans website now shows my amount owing at $0.00. Thank you to funding packages slightly in excess of subsistence, permission to work as an international student, and having minimal taste for luxury goods. Also, student discounts on rail travel. And savings accounts.

3. I'm flying to Australia in nine days.
3b. Happy realisation: can pay back student loans, paying minimal interest, and have enough left over to travel. Hence: Australia.

4. So now, I find a job? Doing something? Hmm.

5. I predict I'll be busy enough in November/December when I'm back in the UK, prepping to teach in January, so I'm not going to look at taking on anything else. Promise! :D

ZERO BALANCE OWING YAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!!! That's a nice thing to see on a loan. That's a REALLY NICE thing.

Australia! Where there will be Mad Walking! And the general relief of not having academic wtfery hanging over your head, I imagine. Have fun!

What are you going to be teaching? Film, I assume, but the same course as you've TA'd previously, or...?

I'm not going to regret missing out on the ritual of monthly loan repayment. :D

And yes, yes I guarantee there will Certainly Be Walking! I've got special walking boots and everything.

I'm going to be teaching the second half of something called TV History & Criticism. If I follow the previous syllabus, the first week'll be Doctor Who and public service broadcasting, and the weeks after will be a history of UK television. I totally feel up to it. Totally. (I'm going to work in at least one week on international co-productions.)

Neat! And yes, definitely include co-pros. They're UK TV! Partially! AND ALSO CANADIAN. (I assume you would be mentioning AT LEAST one or two notable Canada/UK co-pros. Heck, DW could provide a natural segue! Remember when the CBC helped make it? Good times.)
