I know three things about Albuquerque:
1. Bugs Bunny never takes a left there, and always gets lost;
2. Breaking Bad and In Plain Sight are set and shot there;
3. The Southwest Texas Pop Culture and American Culture Association are holding their annual conference there next February.

Seeing as I'll be visiting Albuquerque next February to give a paper at the SWTX PCA/ACA conference (...squee!), I'm sure I'll be learning more about Albuquerque. Like, where it is, exactly. Other than (*waves southish and westish*) thataway.

ETA: as [livejournal.com profile] wicked_g reminds me, High School Musical is set in Albuquerque. HOWEVER: Imdb says it was shot in Utah. It's a Fauxbuquerque.

Once upon a time, there were lj comment-drabbles: wee ficlets about the Serenity crew and knitting. And then came March and [livejournal.com profile] firstgold's birthday. I polished those drabbles and wrote this to sent it to her (which I did!). She was okay with me posting it, but then RL ate my life and I shamefully neglected my poor lj. Now that I'm back, some months later, is Krissy's birthday fic (that still needs a proper title).

In the spirit of sharing, I give you:
"That Firefly Fic I Wrote For Krissy's Birthday"
1500 words, no warnings, set around the time of "Objects In Space"
In which knitting invades Serenity and Mal is confused.

Psychics and boredom and string, oh my! )

[livejournal.com profile] amyisyellow is currently my favourite roommate. Why?

Because today she bought a Wii. And she lets us play with it when she's out. The golfing game is hard. Actually, everything except bowling and boxing is iffy in a living room that's about 64 sq ft. But Wii Play? DUCK HUNT! And the cow racing game. And that creepy matching game where your other Miis pop up wandering in crowds. There's a few dozen computer-generated faces, and then suddenly there's your face staring back at you from the crowd. Creepy, but awesome.

I'm SO going to spend the next week making Mii-avatars of the characters from Arrested Development, Doctor Who, Heroes, Firefly, etc... 'cause in the games? You play as the characters you've designed. THAT means I can have Ten boxing, like, Peter Petrelli, or have a bowling team made up of Mal Reynolds, Buster Bluth, Niki Sanders and The Master. :D Can you imagine, though? Mal and The Master together in the same room? Mal wouldn't have voted for Saxon because he wouldn't trust any gorram politician. Or maybe he's got a dramatically convenient war wound that would block the signals. Or maybe Mr. Universe made special tinfoil hats for the crew so they wouldn't get caught up in Saxonmania. Hee.

...I think I may have missed the point of the Wii.

Still. *geek*

I LOVE YOU AMY FOR BUYING THE WII OMG!

EDIT: Thanks to an awkward lj hiccup, half the entry posted and then collapsed in on itself. [livejournal.com profile] clamore (in a comment to the vanished partial-entry) suggested a Tobias vs Sylar boxing match. Hee!

Here's how it was: [livejournal.com profile] aoshi and I spent an hour on a grey afternoon back in September tossing back and forth good character songs for our dear Firefly friends. I took notes, and promised to post the mix direct as I got home.

Some of our more astute readers may notice that it is, in fact, December. A good three months after this post was supposed to happen. *is ashamed*

There's a song for the nine main characters, two for the ship (one from the ship's POV and one from the characters' POV) and one for Saffron (because we wouldn't have it any other way). The working title for the mix was "The Over-Literal Firefly Mix", and you'd be right in guessing there isn't much subtlety in the songs. But that's part of the fun! I tried a few different track listings, but decided that more-or-less in credits order worked just fine.

Without further adieu, I present...
