I've been a bad blogger - I did Something Interesting a few months ago (ie went to Chicago, briefly) and never posted the pictures. This is all the more embarrassing because the lovely [personal profile] talitha78 was kind enough to show us around and I never mentioned it again. D:

So.

Hey, Chicago! I've got a fourteen-hour (yes, fourteen-hour) layover looming at your lovely O'Hare airport. Is there anyone who will be around on Easter weekend who could hang out and kill time?

The situation is this: a friend and I are going between a conference in Texas back to Heathrow (via O'Hare, and I think Dulles too), but our flight into Chicago got bumped up, making an annoying layover into a Tragic Layover. (I tried to get my flights changed back to the one I booked, but the response was that the airline had changed the flights: here are the times for the new ones! To which I replied: yes, I see that, could you fix the broken thing. Alas, no response has yet been forthcoming.)

Most of what I know about Chicago I've seen on TV (and that was probably Toronto doubling for Chicago anyway), and last year's VividCon was more about vids than city... We're coming back from an academic conference on pop culture, we're both fannishly inclined (she's the one that was sending me the Kradam fic), and she doesn't know it yet, but she wants to see that giant silver bean thing on the waterfront just as much as I do.

We'll be landing in the afternoon. I'm not asking for a place to crash: we have to be back at the airport for 4am and can take the L back to zombie around O'Hare on our own. But I am hoping that someone to help kill a few hours, maybe wander around the downtown, possibly have dinner, before we have to get ourselves stuck back in a tin can for some ungodly number of hours back to Heathrow. Via Dulles. (...why?!)

Thank you, and thank you to signal-bumper [personal profile] serrico!

Today I will be:

- taking a private car to the GO Train
- taking the GO (commuter rail) to Union
- catching the airport shuttle (bus) to the ferry docks
- taking a ferry (boat) to the island airport
- catching a small commuter jet (airplane!) to Chicago
- riding both above-ground and underground sections of the L (subway/light rail)
- walking from the L stop to the hotel...

I just need to work in a horse-and-buggy or hovercraft ride. I don't think I have enough forms of transportation in my day.
